On Friday, July 21, the African American Museum in Philadelphia is proud to partner with AfroTaino Productions to present a festive evening of world music featuring the sounds of Betsayda Machado Y La Parranda El Clavo.
Raised in the small village of El Clavo in the region of Barlovento, Venezuela, Betsayda Machado's recent rural recordings with lifelong friends Parranda El Clavo brought new attention to the Venezuelan Afro-Soul music genre dubbed 'Tambor'—a spirit-shaking percussion and voice fiesta, said to make dancers float. Betsayda Machado leads this group of talented musicians from her village in Venezuela performing traditional music that includes call-and-response harmonies, polyrhythmic percussion, and dancing.
